Methanol Pyrolysis to CO Plant

The process combines methanol cracking with deep purification by PSA. The PSA system is specially designed for the CO/CO₂/CH₄ system, using dedicated adsorbents and a ten-tower configuration. The CO recovery rate exceeds 90%, and the product purity is above 99.5%.

This project is a methanol pyrolysis to carbon monoxide plant of Jiangxi Xilinke Company. It is one of the few typical cases in China that adopt the methanol route for industrial production of carbon monoxide. The designed production capacity of the plant is 2,800 Nm³/h of high-purity carbon monoxide, and the daily processing capacity of methanol is approximately 55 tons. The process adopts a technical route combining methanol pyrolysis and pressure swing adsorption for deep purification. Under the action of the catalyst, methanol is pyrolyzed to produce synthesis gas containing carbon monoxide, which is compressed and purified and then enters the PSA unit. The separated product carbon monoxide with a purity of over 99.5% is obtained. The PSA system has been specially designed for the CO/CO₂/CH₄ system, using dedicated adsorbents and a ten-tower configuration to ensure a CO recovery rate of over 90%. The on-site installation period is 5 months. Key equipment uses imported brands, and the control system adopts dual safety guarantees of DCS and SIS. The successful operation of this plant provides a stable carbon monoxide raw material for Xilinke Company and solves the problems of large investment and heavy pollution in the traditional coal gasification route for producing carbon monoxide.
